Nutrigenetics is a branch of medicine that aims to study our genes in order to characterize a nutritional therapy based on the specific needs of each individual person.

How does it work?

A saliva sample is taken with a small swab, similar to a cotton swab, and sent to a specialized genetic laboratory that analyzes 384 genetic variations related to more than 70 nutrigenetic categories. These data are correlated with anthropometric values and lifestyle characteristics of the patient to draw up a personalized dietary protocol.

Which genes are analyzed?

The analyzed genes are involved in:

  • Onset of overweight and obesity
  • Macronutrient metabolism
  • Micronutrient metabolism
  • Hormones that control appetite and metabolism
  • Exercise
  • Inflammation
  • Intolerances/sensitivity to certain foods
  • Detoxification capacity

Does nutigenetic work?

The nutrigenetic diet has been shown to be most effective in achieving patient compliance, inducing weight loss, and improving baseline blood glucose levels.
